Massive turn-out to mark school principal’s retirement

Thirty three years ago saw a changing of the guard in Bawnmore as a youthful Pat Duddy took over reins in what was to become a long and distinguished career as principal of the local National School.

Pat finally decided to call a day on his teaching career and retired in October last year.

Such a momentous occasion couldn’t pass without marking it in some way and thus Saturday, January 23, saw a celebration of those thirty three memorable years of dedicated service.

The festivities took place in the Claregalway Hotel and more than 300 gathered for a wonderful evening, in appreciation of all that Pat has done for the school and community over the years.

The night also saw Pat presented with a unique painting of a local landmark in addition to a presentation from Fr. Des of Lackagh on behalf o the parish.

Pat, and his leadership, will be sorely missed in Bawnmore. He remains a true gentleman and the extended Bawnmore Community would like to take this final opportunity to say thanks, and to wish Pat and his wife Nora a happy, healthy and lengthy retirement together.
