With growing number of newly qualified Galway teachers joining the dole queue and unable to find employment, Galway West Senator Healy Eames, Ph.D., a former teacher and teacher educator, has highlighted the benefits of the FAS work placement programme as a means which will allow young teachers to get up to nine months work experience in a school and enable them to complete their probation. Claregalway Agricultural Show’s 21st Birthday


It was nothing but talk of horses, ponies, foals, brood mares, sires and dams in the early part of the morning at Claregalway Agricultural Show. Later in the day the topic changed to dogs, cats and chickens.  Then there was talk of Rachel Farrell, the Show Queen, and the way she might look at you!

World Rowing Championships


Brief heads-up …

World Rowing championships commence in Bled, Slovenia this coming Sunday.

Finals are Sunday 4th sept

Ireland is represented by a Womens Lightweight Double Scull, Womens Openweight Double Scull, and a mens Lightweight Quadruple Scull

Galway has an interest in all three boats.

Tribesmen’s Siobhan McCrohan is in the Lightweight Double,

Tribesmen’s Lisa Dilleen is in the Openweight Double

and NUIG’s Niall Kenny in the Quad Scull.

First crew in action is the Openweight Double at noon on Sunday
