05 Oct 2011 GAA Fashion Extravaganza
Claregalway GAA Club are holding their second Fashion Extravaganza on Thursday, October 20th 2011 at 8.00pm in the Clayton Hotel, Briarhill. This event is to support the ongoing development of the Claregalway GAA Club. Two training pitches are now in use but there is still a long way to go and the club has embarked on a five year development plan to raise the funds to enable completion of this project. Club membership is constantly increasing so these facilities are greatly needed.

Cava is now widely acknowledged as Ireland’s finest Tapas restaurant and owner-chef JP McMahon’s 5-course tasting menu for the night will focus on the hottest new trends in Spanish cuisine.
These will be wonderfully complemented by a tutored tasting of exciting wines from the Rioja, Cariňena and Bierzo regions of Spain. The wines will be introduced by David Geary of Axial Wines, another of our modern-day wine geese.

My great grandfather was Michael Long born in Galway, Ireland. I am not exactly sure where or when but potentially in the 1865-1870 range. His wife’s name was Catherine Walsh, also from Galway but it is not clear if they were married before he emigrated to Boston, MA. The height of a wall being constructed in Claregalway by the Office of Public Works is causing some consternation locally – it is claimed that it is blocking the view of the old Franciscan Abbey.
And it has been learned that a letter has been set to the OPW from a local TD asking if the wall can be lowered as its height was causing a lot of disquiet locally. (more…)

16 Sep 2011 Government funds for new Lackagh playground
AN application for funding of more than €100.000 for the provision of a children’s playground in the Lackagh area is set to be approved next week, according to two local Fine Gael representatives.
Planning permission for the 940 square-metre playground was granted by Galway County Council last month and the project should get the green light shortly when government funding of €105,000 is expected to be sanctioned.
