The current status of flood relief works for the Claregalway, Lisheenavalla, Caherlea and Carnmore areas in County Galway was sought in the Dáil by Galway West Fine Gael Deputy Padraig McCormack.
Speaking on an adjournment debate, he said the first anniversary of this flooding passed on November 20 and they were still awaiting confirmation of what type of relief work might be done, with nothing done as of yet. (more…)

05 Dec 2010 Galway Choral Association Sings Hallelujah in support of COPE Galway
Friday November 26th 2010- The rousing strains of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and the lyrical harmonies of Mozart’s Missa Brevis in Bflat are just some of the choral treats to be heard at the Galway Choral Association’s annual Christmas Concert in St. Nicholas Collegiate Church on Saturday 11th December.
Taking place in support of COPE Galway, the concert will also feature choral music from renowned English composers Elgar and Rutter under the direction of Galway Choral Association’s musical director, Norman Duffy.
Galway Choral Association Chairman Michael O’Hare said that the choir was delighted to assist a Galway-based organisation such COPE Galway during this year’s festive season. (more…)

BNI is a professional business organization established 25 years ago globally and began in Ireland 12 years ago. BNI which stands for Business Network International, allows one person from a trade or profession to join a single group (called a Chapter) and to benefit from its referral system. It is like having dozens of sales people working as part of your team, whose role is to refer contacts and business within their group.
With over 5,500 groups globally, and nearly, 130,000 members, it is the most successful business referral organisation in the world. There are over 80 BNI groups in Ireland, with three already in Galway. According to Galway West Fine Gael Senator Fidelma Healy Eames there is an openess among Irish people for a Goodwill patriot fund to help float Ireland again.
In the past few days I received a call from a 73 year old Roundstone man with a unique ‘green jersey’ proposal. He said ‘instead of Ireland being sold out to Europe and the IMF at the exhorbitant interest rate of 5.8%, why doesn’t the Govt. borrow the money from the Irish citizens at half that rate, say 2-3%’. He went onto say ‘Im 73 years old and I would give the Govt. 50 euros per week in return for a bond. (more…)

You have made good progress since entering the contest last year and this is reflected in the range of contacts you have with schools, business and other organisations. As suggested last year it would be great to see you develop a strategic approach by drawing up a three-year plan. The Camino route to Santiago de Compostela has been popular with Irish walkers for many years. Croí is now looking for participants to join this challenge which will take trekkers along the Portuguese route. This path is less travelled and offers a genuine cultural experience.
The trek will take place from the 21st – 28th of May 2011 and is just one of the many fundraising challenges Croí are running next year. All funds raised will continue Croí’s work fighting cardiovascular disease in Ireland. (more…)

Business on the Tuam Road is set for a major boost with the announcement that an expansion of Monaghan and Sons motor dealers incorporating a drive-thru Supermac’s restaurant and an enlarged Centra store is to open within weeks.
The development will also see an expansion of the motor-showrooms with more than 70 jobs being created in the construction and operation of the development with the entire project expected in springtime.
The Supermacs restaurant and drive-thru will open around December 8-10, with the Centra store opening in April. (more…)

25 Nov 2010 Contract for new Gort/Tuam motorway to be signed in January 2011
The contract for the new M17/M18 motorway between Gort and Tuam will be signed in January, according to Fianna Fail Galway West TD Frank Fahey.
The National Roads Authority (NRA) confirmed the news to Dep Fahey on Wednesday, with the contract to be signed with the successful tenderer, BAM Balfour Beatty.
Construction will start early in the new year and the project will cover a distance of 57kms at an estimated average cost of €10 million per kilometre. The project should take two years to complete.
Dep Fahey has also asked the NRA and BAM Balfour Beatty to priortise the section of the road between the N17 Galway-Tuam road outside Tuam town and the new M6 motorway at Cashla, Athenry. This section would then provide for the Claregalway Bypass. (more…)

25 Nov 2010 Claregalway Leisure Centre to receive major grant
Claregalway Leisure Centre is to receive a grant of €10,000 for repair works according to Galway West Fianna Fail TD Frank Fahey.
Deputy Fahey said the centre has been looking for this grant for some time and that there has been “an obvious need to carry out the proposed repair work.”
He added that everyone involved in the Leisure centre committee deserved “immense credit for the hard work” they have put in to secure this grant.
“They made a very strong case and I have no doubt this is what leads to the funding being provided,” he said. “Cllr Malachy Noone also deserves thanks for the work he put in on this issue and all the effort he made to deliver this funding.”

25 Nov 2010 Get on board for Christmas
Galway people will once again be able to park and ride this Christmas.
Galway City Council has launched its Christmas Park and Ride Service, which swings into operation on Saturday 4 December at 7am.
Buses will leave Galway Racecourse every 15 minutes, arriving into the Coach Station, which is located close to the Galway Continental Market and the wider shopping experience on offer in the city.
At just €2 return irrespective of number of passengers in a car, Galway City Council has set this low price to encourage as many people as possible to park at the Racecourse and travel to the city centre by bus. (more…)
