100% Committed to New Second-level School for Claregalway
Update from Senator Fidelma Healy Eames
I am 100% committed to a new second level school for Claregalway.
Fine Gael will lead the next Government. Only a strong Fine Gael TD will be in a position to deliver this school for you. Neither an independent TD nor an opposition party will have the same influence.
I am very aware of the need for the school and the great work that the local committee has done to advance the case so far. I am in regular contact with Paddy Tobin and the committee. (more…)

16 Feb 2011 Movement on Claregalway Secondary School
The prospect of Claregalway getting a Secondary School to cater for 850 to 1,000 students has moved a step closer this week with the Department of Education expected to advertise for a site for the proposed new building in the near future.
“To hear that the Department is moving towards acquiring a site is excellent progress,” says Dr. Paddy Tobin, Chairperson of the Claregalweay Second Level Parents Action Committee.
When contacted by The Tuam Herald Dr. Tobin said that while the comittee were not negotiating with anyone for a site they had four or five meetings with planning staff from Galway Co Council’s roads and environmental services sections.

09 Feb 2011 Compántas Lir – The Loves of Cass MGuire – Brian Friel
About the play
For over 50 years Cass has worked among bums and “gooks” in sandwich-bar, a joint in the lower east side of New York, a block from Skid Row. Upon her return to Ireland, her drinking and coarse manners embarrass her “respectable” family who reject her. Her brother has her committed to Eden House, a “rest home” for the elderly, but which Cass sees as the workhouse. The play deals with her attempts to discover the home she dreamt of all her life and how, under the influence of Trilbe Costello and Mr. Ingram, other “residents,” she eventually comes to terms with her new reality.

03 Feb 2011 Flood Works Progressing
The Office of Public Works (OPW) has confirmed that advance flood relief works in Claregalway are expected to be completed in early May.
The completion of the works will enable the removal of Crusheeny Bridge, which the OPW has identified as a major obstruction to flow in the Clare River, particularly during the catastrophic floods in 2009. The removal of the bridge is expected to contribute greatly to the alleviation of flooding in the Caherlea/Lisheenavalla area.
The OPW is also in the process of engaging environmental and engineering consultants in relation to the main Clare River Scheme. They are expected to be appointed by mid-February and will report back in four to five months.
Work is expected to commence on the main scheme in late summer or early autumn 2011 and the scheme is due to take approximately 18 months to complete.
Minister for Social Protection Eamon O Cuív has said that he is delighted that progress has been made on the project and that he will continue to liaise with Martin Mansergh, Minister of State with special responsibility for the OPW, to try ensure the work is pursued as speedily as possible.
“I can also confirm that the Government have agreed a relocation scheme for those who were flooded during the floods of 2009 and where no works can be done that would have a positive cost benefit to prevent further flooding in the future,” said Minister Ó Cuív.

02 Feb 2011 YellowWood – William Corless
What is possible?
In short, I firmly believe that anything is possible. Many people in everyday life and throughout history have achieved magnificent feats despite not having widespread support. You may remember a time of your own when people challenged your idea and you persisted anyway, and still you succeeded without their support. When you reflect on this, you may recall the personal attributes that you had to achieve your feat – self belief, determination, persistence, action, empowerment and positive intention towards a goal. These attributes are crucial to making any feat possible. I once heard the saying
“If you can conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it. “
In some circumstances a feat maybe so challenging that support is required in your journey to achieve success. In every challenge lies an opportunity to grow and learn from experiences. To overcome these challenges it may be helpful to look to others for support. There is huge support out there and it takes form in many shapes and sizes. Once you look for support and inform people of the feat that you wish to achieve you will be amazed at the acceleration of achieving your feat will get. Connecting with others for support is also rewarding experience as it can also bring new perspectives, energy learning’s and exciting opportunities to light.
While surrounding ourselves with likeminded people is important. We must also remember our own role, and what we are responsible and accountable for. We are accountable for our actions; if we want to achieve a magnificent feat we must feel empowered to take action. We are also responsible to ourselves and ensuring that our mindset is open, focused and positive at all times in the face of adversity. Practice makes perfect – so remember “Where positive thought goes, positive energy flows”
