Delay in delivery of Claregalway bypass saves state over €12m

IF a decision is made to proceed with the much needed Claregalway bypass, it will cost a whopping €12 million less than it would have four or five years ago.

Reduced land prices and construction costs means that it would cost almost a half of what would be required during the boom years.

Last week local residents and the business community in Claregalway were given a presentation of the possible routes for the bypass with four possible options being put forward by the consultants.

Locals looked with interest as each of the four options were outlined – two of the proposed routes bypass the village on the right hand side approaching from Tuam and two on the left.

However, it is understood that the route which commences at Kiniska, about half a mile the Tuam side of Claregalway, and rejoins the N17 at Cregboy a half mile the other side is the preferred option. (more…)

A Touch of Humour – Catholic Shampoo

Two nuns were shopping at a Tesco store. As they passed by the beer section, one nun said to the other “Wouldn’t a nice cool beer or two taste wonderful on a hot Summer evening?”

The second nun answered, “Indeed it would, Sister, but I would not feel comfortable buying beer, since I am certain it would cause a scene at checkout.”

“I can handle that without a problem” the other nun replied, and she picked up a six-pack and headed for the checkout.

The cashier had a surprised look on his face when the two nuns arrived with a six-pack of beer.

“We use it beer for washing our hair” the nun said. “Back at our nunnery, we call it Catholic Shampoo.

Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter, pulled out a pack of pretzel sticks, and placed them in the bag with the beer.

He then looked at the nun, smiled, and said “The curlers are on the house”.

Thought for the Week – A Father’s Love

Father’s day celebrations
The occasion of Father’s Day is special for all of us. It’s a time to love, kiss and hug one of the most precious creations of God – our Dad! For him, we will always remain the small child but this is the day to visit our Dad, spend time with him, hold his hands and reassure him of our love and care. Father’s Day holds great significance for all of us. It’s that time of the year to let your father know that no one loves him more than his own children. It’s a time to be grateful to your father who’s one of the most loving, kind-hearted, understanding and caring person in your life.

So this weekend celebrate Father’s Day with non-stop surprises. Father’s Day poses as a great opportunity to pamper your father for all that he has done for you over the years. You can never repay the debts, but on Father’s Day, you can create a magical place for your father to be delighted and fly high on love and life. As usual a story might help us better to understand the love between a father and his child. (more…)

A Local Playground Project

A Local Playground Project:

Currently there is a fundraising campaign underway to raise funds to build a local playground.  A group of local residents got together to discuss the lack of facilities available for the increasing population of children in Lackagh and the surrounding areas. ‘The Playground Committee’ (Cairde Mór Ltd.) was subsequently established to address this issue.

The Turloughmore Hurling Club, have made a magnificent gesture in making a site available within their grounds for the proposed playground and we commend the club hugely for this.

The committee hopes to secure up to 75% funding through Galway Rural Development, however, we will need to raise approximately a further €40,000. This may seem like a massive endeavor, but if the community (more…)
